Lanzarote is an ideal destination for anyone planning a low cost getaway this winter. As the island is just a four hour flight from the UK. Whilst offering great value apartment and villa accommodation.

Lanzarote is the fourth largest of the Canary Islands and has long been a hot favourite with tourists from across Europe. Thanks to the fact that the island enjoys great weather even during winter. At a much lower flight and accommodation cost than more exotic locations such as the Caribbean or the Far East.

Travel costs have in fact come down significantly over the course of the last year as the price of flights to Lanzarote has tumbled. Thanks to increased competition on the route between the likes of Ryanair and easyJet. Whilst historically rental rates for Lanzarote holiday villas and apartments have always been much cheaper than on other Spanish islands such as Mallorca or Ibiza.

Lanzarote offers loads for visitors to do and see. Such as the majestic Timanfaya National Park – home to Lanzarote´s 300 plus dormant volcanoes. And the many creations of a local artist called César Manrique. Who developed weird and wonderful tourist attractions around the island such as the Jameos del Agua and the Mirador del Rio.

Lanzarote´s main attraction though is undoubtedly its weather and climate. As even when Northern Europe is shivering its way through winter tourists in Lanzarote can enjoy long lazy days at the beach or by the pool. With temperatures hitting 20 Celsius plus all year round. And little if any in the way of rainfall. Thanks to Lanzarote´s close proximity to the arid west coast of Africa and the outer fringes of the Sahara desert. Which lies just 100 km away.

Good value accommodation is available across the island with some of the best to be found in and around the oldest resort of Puerto del Carmen. Formerly a little fishing village called La Tiñosa, now a bustling holiday destination welcoming thousands of holidaymakers every year.

Holiday villas in Puerto del Carmen are priced from as little as €350 per week and some of the most impressive are located above the Old Town Harbour in an area known as Risco Prieto. Enjoying commanding views down to the Atlantic and across to the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura.

Puerto del Carmen has recently undergone something of a facelift so there’s never been a better time to visit and enjoy a relaxing winter break in Lanzarote.
