Take An Early Season Holiday

For anyone looking to get away in the early part of the summer or the late part of spring selection of a holiday destination is important in terms of weather of course but also in terms of how ready a resort is likely to be at that time of year. Many holiday resorts have a well defined season where local hotels restaurants and even shops base their opening times stock levels staffing levels and all kinds of other things on the time of year. However outside of the main holiday season many of these places will scale down or even close completely. The offseason is when holiday workers take their own time off.

For European workers their preferred holiday locations will be places where local summertime occurs in November December or January. Places like Australia and the Caribbean are favourites. If you go to a popular European summer hotspot out of season you may be faced with a totally different place to the one you expect. Of course this may not always be the case. Places that have an economy that doesnt rely solely on tourism can be great places to visit preseason. On the southern coast of France places like St Tropez and Nice spring to mind. Other places to consider are those that have attractive geographical features like spectacular coastlines or beautiful countryside.

In Italy Tuscany is a wonderful place to visit in late spring. Many people are attracted to Italy because of its style friendly people weather and scenic countryside and Tuscany delivers on all these points. Florence Siena and the walled city of Lucca are all breathtakingly beautiful from an architectural perspective and of course for food and wine lovers Italy is sure to be a hit. The early season is also a popular time of year for tourism in Majorca. Alongside Ibiza and Menorca Mallorca is close enough to mainland Spain to feel part of a larger economy but is alsofar enough away to feel like a separate holiday destination. A land of farms mountains monasteries and spectacular coastlines there are always things and places to discover in Majorca. The capital city of Palma is also worth a visit with its seafront location harbour and wealth of restaurants shops and cafes.

However dont write off all dedicated holiday destinations before the main seasons begin. Those destinations lucky enough to benefit from a yearround warm climate may never have an offseason. The Canary Islands of Lanzarote Tenerife Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura are always ideal for warm weather whatever the time of year. Tenerife is the largest of the islands in the group and boasts average daytime temperatures of 20 degrees Celsius. Flights to Tenerife and the other main islands operate all year round and with a number of operators flying there discounted flights are frequently available. Turkey is another location where cold weather is never a problem and tourists are attracted to the country all year round. The overall climate in Cyprus is subtropical and daytime temperatures can reach very high levels in high summer so some would suggest spring as an ideal time to visit the island. Many parts of Turkey are still undeveloped so it is still possible to make new discoveries away fro the traditional tourist areas. The southern coast of Cyprus has over 100 miles of coastline and offers everything from commercial resorts like Ayia Napa picturesque areas like Pissouri bay and quieter more traditional resorts like Latchi a small fishing village surrounded by farmland and retaining many traditional buildings.

For inhabitants of northern Europe then you may need to take a longer trip to reach a suitable offseason holiday choice. Travelling west from Europe the resorts of Florida and some of the Caribbean islands are great for a warm winter break. Bermuda Antigua or the British Virgin Islands all have early season climates that are pleasantly warm. The Caribbean area has very little variance in temperature throughout the year and usually has average temperatures in the mid twenties all year. During the winter months rainfall is minimal and stays low until the rainy season starts in May. During the first four months of the year you will find many sailing festivals taking place in the region. Sailors need a certain amount of wind but they dislike rain and appreciate warm temperatures along with everyone else.
